Everyday Theology: How to Read Cultural Texts and Interpret Trends - K. VanHoozer, C. Anderson, and M. Sleasman (eds)

This work teaches a very clear and understandable way to interpret the
happenings in our culture (be it presidential elections, music, movies
etc) biblically, so that we might understand what's going on underneath
the physical surface and how we as Christians ought to engage or
respond.  One of the best books on understanding the 'signs of the
times' out there.

Christian Theology - Millard Erickson

ISBN: 0801021820. Use http://www.abebooks.com/ to find and buy.

This remains the gold standard for modern systematic theologies in the midst of so many others.  It is a fairly easy read and a must for a reference for the serious Christian and those who have just walked into the faith with questions.  I suggest buying the one volume second edition but first will do for half the price if you are on a budget .

Systematic Theology - Wayne Grudem

ISBN: 0310286700  Use http://www.abebooks.com/ to find and buy.

A very accessible modern systematic theology without allot of philosophy and technical discussion.  Except for Grudem's imposition of his traditional complementarian bias on Jesus Christ and the Father which borders on the heresy of subordinationism, the text is a good read.  His male-female roles position requires reading from other texts before your own position should be decided.

Systematic Theology - Augustus Hopkins Strong

ISBN:  None.  Use:   http://www.abebooks.com/ to find and buy.

One of my favorite classic theologies. The print is small, the English is old but precise, and the discussions are often fascinating like the 'doctrine of uncovenanted mercies,' a treatise on the salvific state of those who live in places where the Gospel wasn't preached.

The Theology of the New Testament - J.J. van Oosterzee

ISBN: 054823440X.  Use http://www.abebooks.com/ to find and buy.

An absolute jewel from 1867 when theologians had time to really think. As far as sort of hybrid Biblical theologies with systematics this remains the best of the many that I have read. It comes in hard and softcover, I like the old hard copy better.

Theological Investigations - volume 4 - Karl Rahner

One of the great Roman Catholic thinkers of the 20th century compiled meditations and studies with some profound insights. It is a really hard read. His chapters on 'the concept of mystery' and 'the theology of symbol' are worth the price of the book however and have influenced my notions of communion and baptism. Reader beware, this book is not for the Catholiphobe nor is it easy to understand for the untrained in continental philosophy.

Theological Topics

Immortality (ISBN: 0875521274 / 0-87552-127-4)
Loraine Boettner

A
classic work describing different views and on afterlife before the
second coming and the Scripture upon which these views are based.  Some
call this discussion the intermediate state debate.  I highly recommend
this one.

Sanctity of Life Principle

The phrase ‘sanctity
of life’ signifies the giving over of a person’s natural and
transcendent human existence to God. The principle is discussed in
detail in an article that I published in the Journal of Evangelical
Theological Society.  See Saying the Unsaid.

The Emergence of 'Supposit' in a Metaphysics of Creation

Infinite
Intensity Discussion - For those who want to enter the deep
contemplation of God's essence expressed in incarnational existence,
here is a typical Thomistic Aristotelian article.  Read it with care
and enjoy Christ's mystery.
